A short review discussing the importance of adequate insurance and how to get suitable policies to meet your leisure requirements.

Travel Insurance

Insurance policies come in many forms and it is now possible to insure yourself against almost any eventuality but care must be taken to ensure the coverage received is adequate. Too many companies offer the best priced premiums in bigger print and in the event of a claim refer to the smaller print which more often than not includes a number of exclusions which are not covered. Perhaps the best example of this dreaded small print is contained within many home insurance policies where the householder puts in a claim for damage or loss only to be told by the insurance company that they need to be pay the first £500-£1000 of any claim, this is called the excess.

A simple solution to this problem would be to contact the prospective provider and ask them to outline everything you are covered for and perhaps just as importantly everything you are not, especially if you are one of those people who enjoys regular winter sports holidays to the Alps and beyond and leave your house unattended. A good place to start looking for travel insurance for your skiing holiday or indeed any form of insurance would probably be on one of the many insurance comparison websites available online. If after reading the information you are still unsure of exactly what is included/excluded, it is important to contact the provider directly and get a thorough, jargon free explanation by a qualified expert, please remember to mention any winter sports you may be partaking in.

Road trip to the Alps? Make sure you’re covered

The field of international motor insurance is perhaps the most competitive in the entire insurance sector and as a result the consumer has a massive choice of provider. The majority of these companies offer special rates and discounts dependant on the individual’s claims history, age and even gender! As with any insurance policy from travel insurance to motorcycle insurance it really does pay to shop around for the best deals, in this sector the most expensive does not necessarily mean the most comprehensive, although you will probably need to pay an additional fee if you are taking your car overseas. Again, this is where the insurance comparison websites really come into their own as they don’t just feature the household names but also the smaller independent brokers who you might not have even heard of.

Before you select a lesser known provider it may be prudent to ascertain the level of customer service you receive in the result of a claim or general enquiry. The advantage of dealing with the bigger firms is that all the information you could ever want is usually detailed on their website and if not they generally have a dedicated customer service team that you contact virtually 24 hours a day. Having someone you can contact 24 hours a day is particularly useful if you need to enquire about activating a travel insurance policy due to an accident or holiday illness. Another thing to consider is the suitability of your vehicle to cope with the sometimes treacherous terrain in the Alps.

Look after pets whilst you’re en piste

As with any member of your family including your pets you want to provide them with best that your budget allows, this can include private health and dental insurance, travel insurance and even cover for your beloved dog or cat in the form of pet insurance. To non pet owners the idea of insurance for pets might seem a little far fetched but the price of veterinary treatment would be extremely prohibitive for many pet owners without insurance. But if you leave you pet in the care of relatives, friends or even the kennels whilst on your winter holiday the peace of mind you receive by having adequate insurance for your furry family member is invaluable. Reputable providers will also ask for some sort of notification that you have read the conditions before signing on the dotted line and paying for the policy.

Long standing and respected organisations implement these conditions not only to safeguard their own interests but also the interests of their potential client as well. Whilst looking on an insurance providers website you should see some reference to their terms and conditions regarding confidentiality, well regarded travel insurance companies will not pass your details onto any third party. If you are in any doubt as to a company’s credentials it may be wise to call them and gauge their experience and professional acumen for yourself and find out if they specialise in the provision of policies for winter sports aficionados. Reputable companies will only be too willing to share details (with their permission!) of current satisfied customers and previous customers who have made a claim.

Going on holiday? Check you are covered.

Many people at one time or another are tempted to forego their insurance premium and spend the money on something else, this can be a costly mistake. One of the most common forms of insurance that people forget or ignore is car insurance, this is particularly risky if a person is taking their car abroad for a skiing holiday as many of the cross channel shipping lines and perhaps border control will check this and could result in the vehicle being impounded if the necessary documents are not presented, Again, the best place to find a suitable international policy is online via the insurance comparison websites, why not compare the various travel insurance policies at the same time? With the advent of the internet finding the right product or service at the right price has never been easier or so affordable so regardless of whether you fancy a week in Chamonix or the latest in designer ski wear, get online and find the best deals.

Comprehensive Insurance

Comprehensive Insurance

Many of the insurance companies accept payment by a variety of methods including debit card, credit card and in some cases a direct transfer. Some of these companies may also accept payment for large premiums in instalments although this does vary from company to company and is dependent on a number of factors. Most importantly it is essential that you find a provider that meets with your exact requirements regardless of whether you are looking for a suitable travel insurance policy or cover for your pet. The insurance industry is very competitive, make it work for you.

It’s really important to have travel insurance! I went one time to go skiing in the Alps and didn’t get any insurance before I hit the slopes. Later on after I slammed into the tree I had to fork over such a large hospital bill. It killed my whole holiday. I’m not doing that again. Next time I’m gonna take out some insurance before I go anywhere.

What the? Who takes out pet insurance? This is as bad as those dog hairdressers I’ve seen around. Unbelievable. Just leave your dog at a friend’s place and go on holiday. If your friend’s not retarded, your dog should be alright. I mean where does it end? Do you take out insurance for your fish or mice if you go overseas as well? This is ridiculous.

I’m planning on going on a cycling tour of the Alps. I was wondering if anyone knows if you can take out insurance on a bicycle or not.

My bikes pretty expensive so I’d like it insured if it gets stolen or if I get into an accident (tho I’m hoping that won’t happen!).

Can anyone help me on this? I’ve looked on Google already and it’s hard to find the good websites from the bad ones. This website looked like it could be informative though.

Thanks anyone who can give some advice!

One thing they forgot to mention here is if you’re hiring a car then you should definitely go with a company that insures the car as well. Driving can be dangerous and in a rented car you don’t want to have to pay all the expenses when it’s not even your vehicle. So ask the person at the sales office first. Otherwise you’ll end up wound around a fence post with a broken leg and a huuuuuge car fixing payment to make. Talk about a bad end to a holiday.
