The French Alps has always provided myself and my family an enjoyable holiday experience. But it seems each year that we spend there, there becomes even less room on the ski slopes, and we’re often queuing for far too long for the ski lifts. Perhaps if we were to try the Italian or Swiss Alps, there would be less of a problem with overcrowding. I have heard that some resorts in the Italian Alps are relatively undiscovered and attract less tourists than the French Alps. Can anyone confirm this and which destinations are the best? Many thanks.
Here it is then the pure unvarnished truth about the Alps, they have been literally bigged up for years when the truth is they are smaller than you would think. I reckon the air is purer up there so you see farther so that when you look down it looks a long way. Do they get altitude sickness or not? It’s worth taking something to measure height with and making up your own mind.
To be honest until just recently I’ve only ever associated The Alps with skiing, naive I know but there you have it! As i’ve seen on this site the scenery is obviously beautiful and being a keen mountain biker I was thinking about packing the trusty Cannondale onto a flight and trying my hand at some extreme mountain biking. Would be great to know if there are designated routes for cyclists, with accommodation along the way to rest my tired legs of an evening!
It seems to me that the Alps as a holiday destination are much underrated. Of course if you go to the wrong side the language can be a problem but the French were fine and the Germans great too. The hotels were reasonable even if it was better to eat out at night. The weather was great and the air invigorating so I slept like a top every single night. Thoroughly liked every town.
I like the idea of holidaying in The Alps as it’s a mere sprint from the UK through the channel tunnel to France and then it’s just a case of heading South East until you hit the foot of these most famous of mountain ranges. The only concern I have is that my vehicle is not a 4×4, will a regular saloon car be able to handle the tricky terrain I wonder?
